Buying Dumbell Advice

Dumbells are an essential piece of equipment to anyone who is going to do workouts at home. They allow you to do many different types of exercises and should be the first piece of equipment bought for any new home gym.

When buying dumbells there are two main types to consider: Adjustable Dumbells and Dumbell Sets.

Adjustable Dumbells
Adjustable dumbells are great because you get a whole lot of different weights of dumbells in a small package.

The ones most recommended are the PowerBlock dumbells. These look clumsy because they are rectangle, but it lets them have more weight for the size making them a lot more functional.

The recommended ones to start off with are the PowerBlock Personal Adjustable 5 to 45 pounds per Dumbell Set. These are very well built and provide maximum functionality. They also allow for room for you to grow, as if you want more weight you can upgrade them later.

If you want something a bit better looking, the Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells are very good. The only problem is they only go up to 52.5 pounds each, so if you ever plan on using more weight than this you won’t be able to.

Dumbell Sets
This is the old fashioned way where you have a rack with a whole lot of dumbells. This takes up a lot of room, but I think it’s very motivating to walk in and see all these dumbells just ready for you to work out with.

The best way to do this is to buy a nice dumbell rack, like the Apex Deluxe, and then buy the individual dumbells. This is very flexible as you can buy the heavier dumbells as you need more weight, tailoring your dumbell set to suit your needs.

The other option is to buy a Dumbbell set. The cheapest and most functional is usually a Rubber Coated Hex Dumbell Set. These are usually a set of ten that has dumbells up to 50lb, but can be a big initial investment. If you want to buy a set, I suggest you go to a physical store and not buy online because of all the weight.

Just be careful when you buy dumbells online, as they are heavy to transport make sure you are not incurring large shipping costs if you get a good price.
